NSW: Carr defends financial mismanagement allegations
New South Wales Premier BOB CARR has defended his government against allegations of
financial mismanagement, ahead of today's mini-Budget.
He's told ABC radio that running a budget deficit is responsible management in the circumstances.
The mini-budget is expected to include tax increases and public sector job cuts.
Mr CARR insists the cutbacks are necessary, saying many government programs face the
chop because of federal funding cuts and pay increases for teachers and nurses.
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says the CARR government's financial woes are the result
of mismanagement.
